Perennial, warm, native, good grazing for wildlife and livestock. 1-2' tall, with weak, crooked, slender, wooly. stems which often take root at the swollen fuzzy joints. The internodes are usually green during winter. The inflorescence has 3-8 narrow spikes. Grows on gravelly uplands. A good source of vitamin A during winter. Decreases with heavy grazing. Areas 7, 8, 9, 10.

Perennial, warm, native, good grazing for wildlife and livestock. 1-3 1/2' tall with stems growing from strong, scaly rootstocks. Hairs grow out of small bulb-like spots on the leaf blade edges. The inflorescence has a zig-zag rachis with many spikelets (20-50) twisting around on one side when ripe. Seeds resemble oats. Grows widespread on a variety of range sites. Grazed by all kinds of animals. Decreases with heavy grazing. Matures seed in spring and fall. Areas 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
