Chloris gayana Perennial, warm, introduced, fair grazing for wildlife and livestock. 2-4' tall, stems growing from a leafy base, erect bunchgrass but often with long stolons which root at the leafy nodes. The culms are somewhat wiry and flattened with dark nodes. The inflorescence has 10 or more terminal spikes. Grows on bottomlands and managed as a pasture grass. Areas 2, 3, 6. |
Chloris cucullata Perennial, warm, native, fair grazing for wildlife and livestock. 1-2' tall, tufted, erect with flat bluish-green stems and sheaths. Sometimes with short stolons. The inflorescence has 7-18 stout, purplish terminal spikes which turn straw yellow or black when ripe. Grows on upland sandy soils, Increases on overgrazed ranges following deferment but replaced by better grasses. Areas 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. |
