Cynodon dactylon Perennial, warm, introduced, poor grazing for wildlife, good grazing for livestock. 4"-l' tall, dark bluish-green sod grass with both rhizomes and stolons that take root at nodes. The intermodes are flattened. The ligule is a conspicuous ring of white hairs. The inflorescence has 3-6 purple spikes which resemble a bird's foot. A common lawn and pasture grass of the South. Chloris verticillata Perennial, warm, native, poor grazing for wildlife and livestock. 6-20" tall bunchgrass growing in small tufts with erect and flat stems that usually are branched at the base. The leaf blades are 2 1/2-7" long and about 1/8" wide at the base, usually folded with the margins and surface rough. The seed head has 8-15 seed branches which are 2-6" long arising from nodes regularly spaced along the axis. The spikelets are alternate along these branches and have short awns.
