Perennial, warm, native, fair grazing for wildlife and livestock. 8-25" tall stems that branch at the base and grow from rough, scaly rhizomes. Each spikelet has long hairs (3-5 mm) at the base. The large papery glumes narrow to tip with awns 4-5 mm long. Resembles overgrown tobosagrass. Grows on hills and plains. Areas 8, 9.

Perennial, warm, native, poor grazing for wildlife, fair grazing for livestock. 4-10" tall, pale green stems, sod-forming with creeping stolons which take root at the leafy nodes. The stolons are long, wiry, rough-feeling and have hair at the nodes (buffalograss is smooth). The blades are densely tufted and curl),. The foliage turns yellow when frosted. The single spike-like seed head has a zig-zag stem when the florets fall. Grows on plains and prairies and withstands heavy grazing but is not drouth resistant. Areas 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
