Cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium)
Cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium)

Cockleburs can become established in drainage ways, old fields, waterlots and pastures where extra water is seasonally available. It can be controlled by pulling all plants by hand or spraying with herbicides in late spring before flowering. Spiny cocklebur (X. spinosum) is limited to West Texas and is usually a lesser problem.
