Horehound (Marrubium vulgare)
Horehound (Marrubium vulgare)

Horehound is a persistent plant found in bedding grounds, waterlots, traps, old fields and heavily trampled areas around pens and buildings. Seeds are scattered in tiny hooked baskets in late spring when plants mature. A late winter spraying with herbicides before flowering or early fall controls horehound. Hand pulling is effective but disturbs soil and promotes germination of more plants. Heavy, intermittent livestock grazing may reduce vigor of plants.
