| Texas wintergrass is an important cool-season grass for livestock. However, its seedheads in spring can damage sheep and goats considerably, in addition to contaminating wool and mohair. Heavy late winter grazing may reduce the number of seedheads produced. Otherwise the only practical management is to remove animals when "spears" are shedding. New Mexico feathergrass (S. neomexicana) is limited to West Texas and is usually a lesser problem. |
